Following last week’s joint decision between NK Theatre Arts and Stockport Council to temporarily close The Forum Theatre in Romiley, a further update is now available.
As a reminder, the presence of Reinforced Aerated Autoclave Concrete (RAAC) in The Forum Theatre has been known about since roof repairs were undertaken in 2017 and since then it has been managed in accordance with industry standards. As a precautionary measure and to ensure the safety of staff, performers and visitors, a decision was made to close the theatre to the public in line with Government guidance to undertake further investigations.
These investigations are continuing – and will carry on into next week. Once the results of these inspections are known, a plan of action will be produced which may include opening parts of the building but only once it is confirmed safe to do so.
NK Theatre Arts and management of The Forum Theatre have been overwhelmed by the offers of support they have received from the local community since the temporary closure was announced. Theatre workshops for over 200 members are continuing to take place at other venues across Stockport.
Performances due to take place this month have now been rescheduled or relocated to other venues – ticket holders have been informed of the revised dates and can contact The Forum Theatre direct if they require further information.
Discussions continue with local community groups who have events scheduled at The Forum Theatre in the weeks ahead. Any further updates to the schedule will be announced on the theatre’s website
